Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt: Baby Names Explained!
Jul 25th, 2008 by admin
As the world slowly re-steadies itself in the wake of the birth of the new Angelina Jolie/Brad Pitt twins, the question on everyone’s mind seems to be the same- where did they come up with those baby names?
33 year-old stunning actress Angelina Jolie finally gave birth on Saturday night at the Fondation Lenval hospital in Nice, France, to a boy and a girl. The boy was named Knox Leon and the girl was named Vivienne Marcheline.
Us magazine spoke to baby name expert Pamela Redmond Satran, who tried to shed some light on the unusual and original name choices. Said Satran to the mag, “Vivienne is the French version of the ancient Latin name that means ‘alive.” For anyone who is an Angelina Jolie fan (and those of us over at Actress Archives definitely fall into that category), it is commonly known that Marcheline was the name of Angelina Jolie’s late mother, who died earlier in the year. Angelina Jolie and her mother were extremely close, so it is in no way surprising that Angelina and Brad chose to honor her in this way- and in our humble opinion, it doesn’t hurt that it’s a beautiful name.
Knox’s name is also straight out of the Jolie/Pitt family history books. Knox was Brad Pitt’s grandfather’s middle name, and, while this may only be a coincidence, ends in an “X,” as do the names of both his older brothers, Maddox and Pax. Middle name Leon is Angelina Jolie’s great-great grandfather’s name.
And there you have it, the baby names explained. We’re definitely intrigued by the whole “names ending in X” theory. Perhaps eventually, this may serve as the only deterrent for Angelina and Brad to finally stop having more children- or at least sons. We’re hard pressed to think of all that many more names that end in X…
